A Magical Morning with the Meadowlarks: Luna’s Moonlit Adventure

This morning at our Community Meeting, the Meadowlarks East class of 2nd and 3rd graders took the stage to perform their original play, Luna’s Moonlit Adventure. Inspired by The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill, the play transported us to a magical forest where a glowing moon, a cozy cottage, and a small village nestled at the edge of a swamp set the scene for a heartwarming story.

In the village of the Protectorate, the townsfolk are wary of a mysterious witch who lives in the forest. But as the play unfolds, it becomes clear that the witch may not be the “monster” they imagine. One character questions, “But what if she’s not the monster we think? What if she’s trying to help?” This question sets the tone for a story about kindness, courage, and the power of understanding.

The mysterious “witch” reveals herself as a compassionate soul, explaining, “The moon gives me magic. I use it to ensure every child finds a loving family.” Yet, in the village, fear and misunderstanding persist. The witch laments, “The villagers do not understand the magic of the moon. They fear what they do not know.” But the village youth speak up, eager for change and growth. “We don’t want to be afraid anymore. We want to be brave and to learn!” one of them declares, sparking a shift in the community’s perspective.

As the characters continue their journey, they realize that understanding and honesty are essential in building meaningful connections. One character remarks, “But now I see that honesty is the best way to show love,” a lesson everyone embraces as they decide, “Maybe we can all learn from each other!”

In the end, the village discovers that love and understanding are far stronger than fear. United under the moon’s light, they embrace one another’s differences and recognize the unique magic within each person. The play concluded with a joyful proclamation, “Hooray for friendship, magic, and the light of the moon!”

Thank you to the Meadowlarks for reminding us of the importance of love, bravery, and understanding. We are so proud of their creativity and teamwork in bringing this enchanting story to life!
